#atozchallenge - l is for laughter

I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it’s the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It’s probably the most important thing in a person.

This awakening authenticity is serious work.

For the love of all that is great and small, bright and beautiful, wise and wonderful
remember to laugh.

When you laugh, let it roll forth from the very depths of your being. Allow yourself to take up space and move people out of your way with your laughter. Let go of the polite giggles or muted chuckling. Throw your head back and laugh.

Inject potential for laughter into your day. Watch funny movies. Sign up for a joke of the day email. Pay attention to the humorous situations that are happening around you all day. Note the ludicrous ways that we can be sometimes and laugh at that shit.

Find other people who howl with laughter and spend time with them regularly. It's the best medicine. My people come hang out at my house twice a month where we throw up journals and paint and play. Mostly, we tell stories from the week and laugh. We laugh when its funny and sometimes when its not. Sometimes laughter is the only way to make it through a difficult situation.

Laughter heals. I think that is why it breaks through at the most inappropriate moments. You know what I mean.

Like when you are Publix, buying flowers, lots of flowers, because you are determined to honor the frugal and somewhat rebellious spirit of your mother and not give in to paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars for flowers at her graveside service. You decide to do it yourself, your way because she would have done it her way. Of course, this draws the attention of the clerk and the question of what you are celebrating that day. You start laughing a little and say, "Well, you'll find this funny . . . " but then as soon as the words leave your mouth you realize that when you tell her that you are buying all these flowers for your mother's funeral, she is definitely NOT going to find this funny. Then its even funnier. Laughter builds, you tell your reason, and the clerk looks at your quite confused and bemused. Sometimes laughter gets your through the  moments that feel impossible.

What's making you laugh lately? Know any good jokes? Leave them in the comments!
